Furman Dito & Swift Architects, an architectural and interior design, construction management and real estate development firm in Tenafly, NJ, has earned the respect and, indeed, the friendship of the local communities by producing design oriented commercial and residential buildings of the highest standards.
Sanford Furman, founder of FDS, earned a bachelor of Architecture degree in 1959 from the University of Illinois, then joined the Army Corps of Engineers, where he became Chief of Projects and Planning Division at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. “I was involved with the design and construction of a great deal of on-post facilities, a self-contained city of 25,000 people, which was an awesome task,” recalled Sandy.
“Working with my father, who was a general contractor, and with other architects prior to graduating college prepared me for this huge responsibility,” Sandy continued. I founded Sanford Furman Associates in 1968, because I wanted to have more control over my work and the opportunity to develop real estate.
Peter Dito is among the second generation at FDS, having risen through the ranks from print boy to partner over the past 15 years. Peter earned his Bachelor of Architecture in 1987 from Pratt Institute, and has been a designer, project manager, estimator and field supervisor for FDS.
Overseeing the design studio is Thomas Swift, who earned his bachelor of Architecture degree in 1977 from the University of Idaho.
